We are lucky to have lots of enterprising people here in N.Ireland and Ireland as a whole producing wonderful food products.
I’m always drawn to the artisan producers doing things in traditional ways .
A few that I would love to receive in no particular order
Cinema Project Coffee. Being married to a Spaniard, mornings don’t happen in our house without coffee and preferably really good coffee. I limit myself to one or two small espressos with almond milk in the morning to kickstart the day. This is a boutique coffee roastery based in Co.Down, run by a young couple who source the highest quality coffee beans from around the world and roast in small batches to create unique and interesting blends.
Linwoods Flaxseed , Linwoods are a family business based in rural Northern Ireland and they produce a range of healthy superfood combinations. Flaxseed is high in omega 3. I love this sprinkled onto porridge or added to a banana and coconut milk smoothie.
Natural Umber , Cider Vinegar with the mother. Apparently the health benefits are huge and it helps keep your stomach flat , and this one actually tastes delicious. What’s not to like ! I take this all the time just squirt it into a glass of water. This is another family business based in Co.Armagh and happens to be owned by my uncle.
Abernethy Butter . Based in Co.Down this is butter as it used to be. Hand churned in small batches using wonderful cream from a local dairy this is delicious butter. What better way to have it than on some homemade soda bread . You can find my recipe on the recipe page .
Bean and Goose Chocolate . I find dark chocolate hard to resist and there are some really great producers now. Bean and Goose is based in Wexford, this small company run by two sisters use single origin chocolate paired with flavours and ingredients that reflect and celebrate the Irish seasons. Like myself they have a passion for using seasonal, natural ingredients. You can sign up for a subscription to receive a monthly order.
Long Meadow Cider and Apple Juice , another family business based in Co.Armagh and another relative , my cousin. They produce a range of award winning craft ciders and apple juice. They produce in small batches using a slow fermentation method.
Victorinox Knives . I digress with this one, not local or edible but If I could only have one kitchen utensil a Victorinox knife would be it . Makers of the original Swiss Army knife, I use these umpteen times a day , they’re not too expensive and they come in gorgeous bright colours.
