Preserving in Autumn
Autumn is a time of plenty and a great time to preserve some of the lovely autumnal produce on our doorsteps.
Apples, pears, plums, damsons, crab apples, medlars and quince if you’re lucky enough to grow or find them.
What’s in Season in Autumn?
My quince trees have come to an end this year due to a common blight but I’m planning on planting some new varieties that apparently will grow well here.
And then there’s the last of the tomatoes if you grow your own make a superb chutney to see you through the winter or make a lovely warming bowl of tomato and basil soup.

All the jellies and chutneys are delicious served with cheese or ham and make a great addition to lunch.
I love to cook and eat with the season and you can read more about what’s in season this autumn in my blog post.

Friday morning’s class was very enjoyable. The visit to your local orchard really set the scene! Michelle and her husband gave us a great insight into life in the orchard! It was lovely to meet them and learn about the upcoming apple harvest.
As always your class was an inspiration; I always enjoy your demos.
Well done and thank you!
