Apple & Cinnamon Crumble

Servings: 6

Cooking time: 45 minutes

What you'll need

1.1litre capacity pie dish, lightly buttered

Apple Base

  • 2-3 Large Bramley Apples
  • 75g soft brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Crumble Topping

  • 125g self-raising flour
  • 130g butter
  • 25g oats (optional)
  • 50g soft brown sugar
  • 50g Demerara sugar
  • 50g blanched almonds, chopped roughly
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  1. Preheat the oven to 160° Fan / 180 C / 350F
  2. Peel and core the apples and cut them into thick slices. Place in a bowl with the soft brown sugar and cinnamon and toss together and then put in the pie dish.
  3. To make the crumble, rub the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs, and add the sugar, cinnamon, almonds, and oats.
  4. Sprinkle over the apple and bake for approximately 45 minutes or until the topping is cooked and golden and the apples are soft. Push a little sharp knife into the middle to test if the apples are soft.
  5. Serve warm with cream, ice cream, or custard. Keeps well and reheats the next day.

You can substitute the brown sugar with caster or demerara sugar.

You can leave the almonds out or toasted chopped blanched hazelnuts would be delicious also.
